Using Pronounce It!

One of the most difficult aspects of learning a new language is learning how to pronounce it. Pronunciation is important not only so that you can be understood by native speakers, but also as an aid to your own comprehension. Choose Pronounce it! (Female) or Pronounce it! (Male) by clicking the links here or from the left menu bar whenever you want to pronounce a new word. Choose the language you are learning from the drop down box, type in or cut and paste the text you want to pronounce and click 'Say it.'

In order for the characters to correctly pronounce the words for you, however, you must spell them correctly. That includes any foreign characters or accent marks that occur normally in the spelling of the language. Below is a list of common symbols and how to produce them on both a Mac and a PC. A more comprehensive list can be found here. You can always cut and paste the characters, but if you're serious about reading and writing the language, it's worth it to learn the keyboard commands.
